ALBERTO GIMENO

Chemical Engineer, 12 years in Spain and 24 in Portugal as Quality Control Director for raw materials and mixed feeds (with special incidence in the area of Mycotoxins) in a mix feed factory and other enterprises, respectively.

More than 18 years dedicated to applied research of fungistatics (mould inhibitors) and antioxidants (techno-commercial area).

Ten years at SETNA PORTUGESA (SPANISH GROUP OF TECHNOLOGY AND ANIMAL NUTRITION) , specialized in animal nutrition, quality control and applied research (techno-commercial area)

Three years Technical Director of NUTECAL (NUTRITION AND FEEDER TECHNOLOGY) (in Portugal), specialized in animal nutrition, quality control and applied research (techno-commercial area).

1. Initiated his specialization in fungi and mycotoxins at the Agronomic Station at NOUCILLY, France.

2. Was careers adviser of 4 (four) doctoral thesis on mycotoxins, two in Spain and two in Portugal.

3. Was an Advisor in the Commission for the Normalization of Analytical Methods of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, in Madrid, during a period of 5 years.

His mycotoxins multidetection method applied to the analysis of aflatoxins was official in Spain during more than 6 years (after the inter-laboratory collaborative study comparing two techniques, the one that was official for the CEE and the other one the above referenced proposed by him).

4. Collaborated 14 years with the International Agency for Research on Cancer World Health Organization) on Mycotoxin Check Sample Survey.

5. Organized and directed two collaborative studies (inter-laboratory) regarding the control of Aflatoxins in the raw materials and mixed feeds, one of them between Spanish laboratories and another one between laboratories of the different countries of the European Economic Community.

9. Regarding the control of Carotenes and Xanthophylls in Corn, Gluten Meal, Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal and Marigold Meal, published one article in the Journal Association of Official Analytical Chemists of the United States of America.

10. Carried out three trials (one in Spain and two in Portugal, at the Estación Nacional de Avicultura y Cunicultura de Vendanova) about the applied investigation of the use of adsorbent agents as mycotoxins detoxifiers.

11. Concerning the Animal Nutrition gave five lectures in Spain and six in Portugal.

12. With his applied research in the area of fungistatics (mould inhibitors) and antioxidants, launched the fungistatics in the Portuguese market under the brand names GIFUNG and GIFAX and the antioxidant GIOX, all of them distributed by the Portuguese Company UPV. Afterwards and continuing with his applied research, launched the fungistatic FUNGISTOP, in its powder and liquid versions, and the antioxidant OXIOUT, all of them distributed in Spain and Portugal by the Spanish enterprise SETNA, and currently in Portugal by the firm NUTECAL.

13. By personal invitation, participated in a private meeting of EC, WHO/IPCS and FAO about Mycotoxins and Toxic Plant Components, which took place in the Instituto Superior de Agronomía, in Lisbon, Portugal.

14. Attended and collaborated in the 7th International Congress of Bacteriology and Applied Microbiology Division and 7th International Congress of Mycology Division, in Prague, Check Republic.

15. Attended and collaborated in the International Seminar of FUSARIUM Mycotoxins, Taxonomy and Pathogenicity, in Martina Franca (Italy).

16. Gave a course on Chicken Fungi and Mycotoxins, as a guest of CESAC, (Centro de Sanidad Avícola de Cataluña) within the formation course that took place in Reus (Tarragona – Spain).

17. Gave a lecture regarding the Methods of Analysis of Mycotoxins in the II Conference – Salón de Fabricantes de Piensos del Mediterráneo at Reus (Tarragona – Spain).

18. Gave one course on Fungi and Mycotoxins in Animal Nutrition, in the Enterprise Group
NANTA S.A – NUTRECO – TROUW NUTRITION in Madrid-Spain.

19. Gave three courses on Mycotoxins in Human Nutrition, in the Technical University of Lisbon

20. Published an article about “Mycotoxicosis in Rabbits” in the Chapter of Toxicology in the book
